ABC Song
September 6th, 2011
This ABC song is the one that students in Room 116 use to learn how to slowly and clearly say each letter name of the alphabet. This song was created by Open Court Reading. Here are the words below:
ABCDEFG (clap)
HIJKLMN (clap)
OPQ (clap)
RST (clap)
UVW (clap as you say the "u" in double u)
XYZ (clap)
Now I never will forget how to say my alphabet.

Professional Growth Plan Rap
May 26th, 2011
With the aid of my colleagues, I created a rap ( PRESS LISTEN BELOW!) that encompasses many of the goals that we set and achieved for the 2010-2011. Enjoy the lyrics I created to the melody of "Another One Bites the Dust." The words are written below:

Partnering with Families
Is key to any student’s success
That’s why the kindergarten team
Is gonna tell you that we do it best.

Are you ready? (Hunh?)
Are you ready for this?
Reading, writing and arithmetic!
Technology with Easiteach
We’re reinforcing positive discipline.
(WILLIAMS-BEY)
Now back to partnering with families.
It’s more than making phone calls home.
Our parents and teachers work as a team
and make the growth of students our first goal.
(HUGHES)
Monthly newsletters outline special events
with activities parents can do with their kids.
The “I Can Project” fostered self esteem by helping
Students realize what they’d achieved.
(BACON)
With Kidspiration webs were made to help students learn Black History.
Like how Jackie Robinson was the first Black man to play in the Major Leagues.
Easiteach was used to prep students for NWEA
Practicing with manipulatives helped to make the test real easy.

Are you ready? (Hunh?)

(JOHNSON)
When it comes down to reading and math assessments
Reading tests are given every two weeks.
Math assessments come at the end of each unit
To record what skills students are mastering.
(HART)
By displaying each test on the Polyvision Board
Visual learners use it as a guide.
And when the test is done we review the outcome
To see where we may need to spend more time.
(SCHIELKE)
Abcdefg—what are students mastering?
Hijklmnop—hit ‘em with technology
Qrstuv—talk to parents daily
Wxyz—how are they behaving?
(MCGOWAN)
Since we couldn’t use belts we had to buckle down on positive discipline.
Using baseball diamonds and baseball cards made each situation a win win.
When individual students received a home run they were told that they earned a prize.
But if the whole class scored 10 home runs, dance parties were the new surprise.

Are you ready? (Hunh?)
Are you ready for this?
Reading, writing and arithmetic!
Technology with Easiteach
We’re reinforcing positive discipline.
(KAMEGO)
But of course there are always one or two students who defy our classroom rules.
But they notice the encouragement given by their teachers and remember what they have to do.
If they won’t sit down then they lose their chair, the consequences always match their actions.
When it comes to On B.A.S.E., kindergarten’s the place that makes solution-focused chain reactions!

Vertical Equation Chant
May 13th, 2011
*I came up with this chant since many of my students were having a difficult time writing vertical equations.
(Students repeat each line after teacher)
My numbers go in a straight line.
Operation sign's on the side.
At the bottom is a straight line.
That stands for the equal sign.
